Great Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh has been hospitalized on Friday evening due to the brain haemorrhage and admitted to Lilavati Hospital, Bandra in a critical condition. A source said that "he was immediately rushed to the Lilavati hospital and underwent a surgery." No other information was revealed by the hospital officials about the health condition of Jagjit Singh. "We have to respect the patient's privacy," managing trustee Niket V. Mehta said.
"Jagjit Singh's condition continues to remain critical" Mehta added. The 70 year old ghazal singer, Jagjit Singh is popularly known as 'Ghazal King' and gained acclaim together with his wife Chitra Singh, who is also a renowned ghazal singer.
Singer Jagjit and meastro Ghulam Ali were slated to perform a live music concert 'Fever Unplugged Concert' in Shanmukhananda Hall in Mumbai. Later the Jagjit Singh performance was canceled. A representative of the Fever Entertainment said that "Owing to the sudden hospitalization of Jagjit Singh, singer Hariharan is performing in his place."
Ghazal King, Jagjit Singh has been suffering from high blood pressure since the past few years. Sudhir Dagaonkar, an official of Lilavati Hospital said that Singh has been admitted to the hospital. "Our doctors are administering him the best possible treatment. However, the family wants that their privacy be respected for now. We will issue a health bulletin tomorrow," Dagaonkar added.
